What Exactly Does a Good Fit Look Like?
Fit isn’t a number. It’s a feeling.
The right fit doesn’t ask for attention. It simply looks right.
A well-fitted shirt follows the natural lines of your body without restricting movement or drowning your silhouette. The proportions feel balanced, the fabric falls naturally, and every element sits where it should.
At Formistry, we believe good fit is where comfort meets confidence.
Start with the shoulders
The shoulder is where a shirt begins to take shape.
The seam should sit naturally at the edge of your shoulder, not too far down the arm and not pulling inward. When the shoulder fits correctly, the rest of the shirt has a strong foundation.
A good shoulder fit should look natural, not forced.
The collar should sit right
A collar frames the face and sets the character of the shirt.
It should sit comfortably around the neck without feeling restrictive, while leaving enough room for natural movement. Whether worn buttoned or open, the collar should maintain its intended shape.
Comfortable around the neck. Clean around the edges.

The sleeve & armhole
The sleeve should allow movement without creating unnecessary fabric or pulling across the upper arm.
The armhole plays an important role here. A well-considered armhole gives you freedom to move while helping the shirt maintain its shape.
Raise your arm.Reach forward.Sit down.
A good shirt should move with you.
The body of the shirt
This is where proportion matters most.
Too loose, and the shirt can lose its structure. Too fitted, and movement becomes restricted.
The ideal silhouette follows the body without clinging to it, creating enough room for comfort while maintaining a clean, refined profile.
Not oversized. Not restrictive. Just well considered.

The length matters
A shirt should finish at a point that complements the way it is designed to be worn.
Too short can make the proportions feel awkward. Too long can overwhelm the silhouette.
The right length creates balance, whether you’re wearing the shirt tucked into tailored trousers or casually over denim.
A simple test
Stand naturally.Move your arms.Sit down.Button it up.Leave it open.
If the shirt continues to look good through all of it, the fit is doing its job.
Because great fit isn’t about standing perfectly still in front of a mirror.
It’s about looking your best while living normally.
The Formistry approach
We don’t see fit as simply choosing between Small, Medium, Large or XL.
Fit is the relationship between proportion, construction, fabric and movement.
Every detail has a role, from the shoulder line and collar to the sleeve, body and length.
The goal is simple:A shirt that looks sharp when you’re standing still, and feels effortless when you’re on the move.
